Winter Skies Telescope Party
at the Hayden Planetarium

Winter Solstice
Join Hayden astronomers with Steve Beyer, Joe Rao, and Ted Williams for a “sneak peak” at the nebulas and open cluster that will be visible this winter and details on how to observe the night sky from inside Hayden's world-famous Space Theater, utilizing its state-of-the-art Zeiss IX planetarium projector. Then, bundle up, grab a hot chocolate, and head outside to the Ross Terrace to observe celestial objects with members of the Amateur Astronomers Association, weather permitting.  Participants are welcome to bring their own binoculars and telescopes.

Directions and Transportation

The Museum is located at 79th Street and Central Park West and is easily reached by public transportation. The main entrance to the Rose Center for Earth and Space is located at 81st Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue.

By Subway:
Take the B (weekdays only) or C to 81st Street. Two blocks west of the Museum, the 1 train stops at Broadway and West 79th Street. For a full size subway map, follow this link to go to the Metropolitan Transit Authority Web site.
PLEASE NOTE: For the duration of the construction on the Manhattan Bridge the B subway line will not operate on the Upper West Side during the weekends. Weekday service will not be affected during visitor hours, but the B train will stop running weeknights on the Upper West Side at 10:45pm.

By Bus:
The M79 bus travels east/west on W. 79th Street across Central Park, with a stop next to the Museum on W. 81st Street. Other buses also stop at or near the Museum, including the M7, M10, M11, M86 and M104 buses.
