Building on the basics of recreational boating presented in the public boating courses, Seamanship adds foundational information for continuing boater education. The course contents should facilitate knowledge development for increased safe operation of recreational boats and provide the basis for completion of USCG licensing examination. Emphasis within the course has been placed on higher level boating skills, rules of the road, and marlinspike.
New for 2013 an On-The-Water component enhances the learning experience! Learn USPS Seamanship ON The Water with North River. North River Squadron teaches the USPS Seamanship course and adds a On The Water session in which students learn a Safety checkout, Departures & Docking, Anchoring & Mooring, collision avoidance and VHF usage. You can select your on the water training dates on any Saturday starting June 1 through August 3rd (excluding 4th of July Weekend) with the following Sunday as the rain date.
