Join Americas Boating Club for Manhattan in a seminar and panel discussion on apps for mariners using mobile devices using the IOS and Android operating systems.  We will discuss our favorite apps and hear from you about yours.  The apps discussed will include:

  • AIS
MarineTraffic - Ship Tracking by MarineTraffic.com.  This app displays MarineTraffic near real-time positions of ships and yachts worldwide.
Using the largest network of land-based AIS receivers, the app covers most major ports and shipping routes.
  • CHARTPLOTTERS
iNavX - Marine Navigation by NavX Studios.  This is the most popular chart plotter for the IOS operating system (Ipad and Iphone).  INavX is one of the most feature rich apps available for all sailing and boating needs at a reasonable price.
Embark: Boating and Weather by i-Sea AS.  Available for both IOS and Android this full featured app uses the popular C-Maps and is full featured.  Embark brings you the nautical routing with the new Auto-Routing feature.  C-Map Embark provides high-quality nautical maps along with navigation, traffic and weather information to help you plan your next trip on the water.
OpenCPN is a free full featured chart plotter which is the defacto training plotter for all USPS classes.  It includes a worldwide chart library included all NOAA raster charts.  For Android mobile devices but will run on MAC OS.
  • WEATHER RADAR

  • MARINE WEATHER
NOAA Now by Kelly Technology Inc. provides the latest information from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  It is one of many weather apps available.
  • TIDES & CURRENTS
Tide Alert (NOAA) - USA by Rivolu LLC stands out from other tide apps by presenting you the tide forecast data from NOAA along with a moon phase calendar. One of the best feature is it allows you to setup alerts for high tide and low tide events every day.
  • WIND
PredictWind — Marine Forecasts by PredictWind Limitedproprietary has a PWG and PWE marine weather forecast models along with the ECWMF and GFS models provide the most accurate forecasts, available at the highest resolution.
SailFlow by WeatherFlow is one of our favorites.  Highly accurate wind forcasts over a one week period by the hour.  It has many stations available for close local forecasts.  A must for sailors, the finest in-depth Wind Forecasts available.
  • Navigation Rules
Navigation Rules Pro by Double Dog Studios contains a complete copy of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972 (COLREGS), including amendments and the Inland Navigation Rules, in effect for all inland waters, including the Great Lakes plus the following information a boater needs:
  • KNOTS
Sailor knots by Lars Bergelt is an app offering the nine most important sailor knots will bring. These are also at the boat slips examined.
  • HAM RADIO
EchoLink by Synergenics, LLC turns your phone into a VHF Amateur radio with access to VHF repeaters worldwide. Please note: This app is for licensed Amateur Radio operators only and requires cell service.  See www.echolink.org for more information.
