Founder's Day is when we commemorate the history and celebrate the future of our Squadron. Founded in 1936, North River has served as a valuable source of boating education to its members as well as to the public. We are proud of our legacy as safe boating educators.
This year a special treat, a gourmet dinner at the Tasting Room. The Tasting Room is the accidentally discovered downstairs room at 569 Hudson Street, home to Philip Marie Restaurant. The private "Tasting Room" dining space started its life as an 18th century farm house kitchen. It was walled up and built over for more than a century until John rediscovered it, giving back its sense of purpose. Local lore has it that, in the late 1700's, the kitchen was the centerpiece of a loving couples home. Its dual hearths kept the lovers and the community warm and nourished. The Tasting Room exclusively offers the acclaimed USA approved cuisine of Chef John P. Greco III in a setting that is unmatched anywhere and will thrill guests with its charm and comfort.
This year's speaker will be is Cliff Freer who will give us an overview of the entire FDNY fleet. Cliff Freer has been with the FDNY for 12 years. His current assignment is covering lieutenant for 14 Division/FDNY SCUBA Unit. He is an avid tech and cave diver, and is a National Association of Underwater Instructors divemaster.
New Squadron members (those who joined in 2012) are invited free of charge. All others $40 dollars including a free drink and gourmet dinner.
